We are a vetted market,

What Does “Vetted Market” Mean?

The Black Hills Farmers Market is a vetted market. This means every completed vendor application is reviewed by our Vendor Committee before a business or product is accepted.

The committee considers:

  • Compliance with BHFM Rules and Regulations
  • Whether the products meet the market’s eligibility requirements
  • Required licenses, permits, labeling and food-safety documentation
  • Product quality and presentation
  • Available market space
  • Maintaining a balanced selection of vendors and products

BHFM is not an open-enrollment or first-come, first-served market. Submitting an application does not guarantee acceptance, and approval may be limited to specific products.

We encourage you to apply. Before submitting your application, please carefully read all information on the Vendor Resource Page.

Safety and Regulatory Compliance

The safety of our customers, community and vendors is a top priority. Every vendor is responsible for understanding and complying with all laws and regulations applicable to their business and products, including:

  • South Dakota food-safety laws
  • South Dakota Department of Health requirements
  • South Dakota cottage food laws
  • South Dakota weights and measures requirements, including certified scales when applicable
  • USDA and FDA labeling, inspection and handling requirements, when applicable to meat, poultry and packaged products

As part of the application and review process, BHFM may require vendors to provide applicable licenses, permits, certifications, labels or other supporting documentation.
